The fire within drives your work. The fire outside refines it. A leader needs both.
The fire outside tests what you built.
It tests the durability of your work. Your true value of labour is what survives the fire.
Some build with gold. Others with wood, hay, and straw. Only those who endure the process emerge refined at the end. Fire reveals your work, not destroys it.
The fire within is that passion that guides your path.
But that fire fades quietly.
The fire within must be guarded. It demands regular tending. Even the strongest fire will dwindle to embers if neglected. You should feed the fire, stir it up, and rekindle it.
A dying fire shows up as burnout or mission drift. The gift and truth entrusted to a leader must be guarded from error.
Beneath every fire, every new project or breakthrough, lurks a viper, ready to strike. The snake doesn’t bite the passive; it bites the one feeding the fire.
It is the same snake that bit Paul of Tarsus.
Misreading the bite is common.
The crowd always assumes judgment, but the builder knows it is proof of motion. Only with the clarity of mission and composure can you throw the viper back into the fire.
Fire also separates.
It burns away what once clung to you. What left you, left not because they disliked you. It left because the fire couldn’t keep it. You have become different. You didn’t notice it yet.
You will notice once the inner fire grows to match who I have become.
Fire demands distance from people who can not endure it.
Max Weber called it the routinization of charisma, the moment early fire fades into bureaucracy. Radical movements often become institutionalized and lose their original intensity. Administrators take over, self-interest creeps in, and what began as fire turns to ash.
This is where African governments, churches, or liberation movements often lose the fire.
Losing the fire is a failure. Avoiding the fire is a tragedy. Surviving is not the goal, but enduring work is the only reward.
I still look for the fire that once held me grounded. I will enter it again. But only after the fire purifying me restores the fire within.
This is when the fire is justified.
